Transcribe every new upload

This n8n workflow watches a channel and runs once for every new video, with its transcript attached. Use it to keep a searchable archive of a channel, feed new videos to an LLM, or post a summary the day a video goes live.

How it works

  1. TranscriptFetch Trigger

    New video on the channel

When you activate the workflow, the trigger creates a monitor on TranscriptFetch. It checks the channel on its schedule (once a day in the template) and posts each new video to the workflow, transcript included.

  2. Filter

    Transcript ready

Passes on the videos whose transcriptStatus is ok. A transcript that is still being made arrives later as its own item, so nothing is lost.

  3. Edit Fields

    Send it anywhere

Keeps the title, link, channel, publish date and transcript text. Point this step at Slack, Notion, Google Sheets or an LLM.

Good for

  • An archive of every video a channel publishes, as searchable text
  • Alerts when a creator mentions your product or a topic you track
  • Automatic summaries or social posts for each new upload

Set it up

  1. Copy the workflow below and paste it onto an empty n8n canvas, or download the file and use Import from File.
  2. Add a TranscriptFetch API credential to the trigger.
  3. Set the channel (a YouTube @handle or channel URL, a TikTok @profile or an Instagram account URL) and how often to check.
  4. Activate the workflow. Deactivating it later deletes the monitor.

What it costs

  • Each check costs 1 credit, whether or not it finds a new video. Checking once a day uses about 30 credits a month.
  • Each new video's transcript costs 1 credit from captions, or 1 credit per started 5 minutes of audio when the video has none.

Get the workflow

Copy it, click an empty spot on your n8n canvas and paste: the nodes arrive wired together. Or download the file and use Import from File in the workflow menu.

Questions

  • How often can it check?

Once a day on any plan, or every 6 hours, every hour or every 15 minutes on a paid plan.

  • Can it watch YouTube Shorts or live streams?

Yes. The trigger's YouTube Tab setting watches a channel's videos, Shorts or live streams.

  • Does it work on self-hosted n8n?

Yes, with a public HTTPS address for the trigger's webhook: set WEBHOOK_URL through a reverse proxy or a tunnel. n8n Cloud always has one. Without it, use a Schedule Trigger with List Channel Videos and Since Video ID instead.
