    "Summarize the last five videos on this channel", "what does this TikTok claim?", "find videos comparing these two tools". The model picks the right tool and fetches what it needs.

    The model reads the real transcript, with timestamps, so it can quote what was said and link to the moment instead of guessing from a title.

Questions

  • Can ChatGPT watch YouTube videos?

    Not by itself. ChatGPT works from text, and when it is given a YouTube link it usually cannot get at the transcript. Connect TranscriptFetch as an MCP connector and it can fetch the transcript of any public YouTube, TikTok or Instagram video, then answer from what was said.

  • Can Claude watch YouTube videos?

    Claude cannot open a video on its own. With the TranscriptFetch connector added from Claude's connector directory, or as a remote MCP server in Claude Code, it fetches the transcript and works from that, including whole channels and playlists.

  • Does it work with my own agent, not just chat apps?

    Yes. The same server works as a remote MCP tool in OpenAI's Responses API and Agents SDK, and any framework can call the REST API as a function tool. The docs have tested examples.

  • What happens when a video has no captions?

    TranscriptFetch transcribes the audio with AI and returns the same transcript shape, so the agent does not need a second path. It is charged by length, only when a transcript is delivered.
